More Information
The legacy of Alfred I. duPont created a charitable foundation devoted to providing health care services to children. Today, Nemours is an innovative, multidimensional organization working in conjunction with partners to raise the bar in children's health. This includes developing a pediatric electronic health record (EHR) that works seamlessly across multiple locations, enabling Nemours physicians to securely view records and treat patients anywhere. Clinical Care The Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children Our 200-bed hospital offers intensive and acute inpatient and outpatient services covering more than 30 disciplines. Our internationally recognized programs include blood and bone marrow transplantation, cardiology, genetics, orthopedics and solid organ transplantation. The Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children serves thousands of children in the Delaware Valley, across the country and around the world. The needs of a child in the hospital today are increasingly complex, so we'll be adding exciting new capabilities to better meet those needs for the future. Plans include a multiphase hospital expansion, which will include a larger pediatric intensive care unit with state-of-the-art technology, a new inpatient care building with all-private rooms, an expanded Emergency Department and patient family amenities. Nemours Children's Clinic Nemours Children's Clinic is a multi-specialty pediatric group practice with locations in four states: Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Florida. Through the Clinic, Nemours is able to bring advanced pediatric specialty care into local communities, making care more accessible and convenient for families. And all of our clinics are connected by our sophisticated electronic health record (EHR) that allows us to communicate closely with a child's physician, providing a collaborative approach in the care of children and helping us make family-centered care a reality. Nemours Pediatrics We have 10 Nemours Pediatrics locations in Delaware and two in Pennsylvania providing primary care for newborns, children and teens. Nemours Pediatrics locations are also connected by our electronic health record (EHR), so that families get the same collaborative, family-centered approach they receive in our clinics and hospital. And, we provide around-the-clock advice for patient families through KidsHealth On Call, the 24-hour medical phone line. Nemours Health Clinic The Nemours Health Clinic provides assistance to the senior citizens of Delaware in an outpatient setting, covering health services in the fields of dental care, vision care and hearing care. Nemours Children's Hospital and Health Campus In 2012, Orlando will be home to Nemours Children's Hospital, part of a unique, state-of-the-art health campus that also includes a new Nemours Children's Clinic, an ambulatory diagnostic center and extensive research and education facilities. This new campus will bring the Nemours legacy of comprehensive children's health care and research capabilities to the forefront of the emerging health and science sector of Central Florida, offering opportunities for collaboration with the University of Central Florida College of Medicine, University of Florida College of Medicine, Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute, and the VA Hospital. And as a part of Nemours, our new hospital will have access to the specialists and resources of the renowned Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, Delaware. For more information about hospital development, go to FloridasKids.org. Nemours Clinical Management Program To measure clinical care and monitor quality indicators, we develop unique electronic tools that are embedded into the EHR. These tools allow analysis of care, which then translates into quality improvement programs. Research Nemours Biomedical Research Our mission is to improve the health and health care of children by seeking new approaches to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of childhood diseases and to educate the next generation of leaders in children's health – from bench to bedside, clinic to community. Nemours is highly ranked in the nation for National Institutes of Health research funding among free-standing children's hospitals. Prevention and Intervention Nemours BrightStart! Nemours recognizes that reading failure is a major child health issue that touches all aspects of development: educational, cognitive, emotional and social. Through a groundbreaking early screening and intervention program, Nemours BrightStart! addresses dyslexia and other risk factors for reading failure, which affect 20% or more of all children. This successful initiative also seeks to increase public awareness about reading readiness and moves the Nemours legacy of scientific and medical expertise from the clinic to the community. Nemours Health and Prevention Services Expanding beyond treatment and clinical care, Nemours Health and Prevention Services (NHPS) works hand-in-hand with the community to emphasize child health promotion and disease prevention in all the places where children spend their time. With more than 200 partner organizations, we are working toward policies and practices that will give our kids the very best chance to grow up healthy – with an emphasis on childhood obesity prevention. In addition, Nemours' Office of Child Health Policy and Advocacy in Washington, DC allows us to advocate for improved health outcomes for all children, not just the patients we serve. Education Nemours Center for Children's Health Media We've created the award-winning KidsHealth.org, the most visited site in the world devoted to children's health. Every year, nearly 200 million people turn to KidsHealth.org for answers, helping us reach a major milestone in 2010: our one billionth visit. With the help of nurses and clinicians throughout Nemours, KidsHealth also co-creates innovative patient safety and satisfaction products with companies such as GetWellNetwork and Emmi Solutions.
